Case Study One
WireCrafters®, the nation’s leading provider of wire partitions,
offer a significantly versatile product line to keep up with its ever
changing customer demands.
Early on, WireCrafters discovered that the practice of translating
customer specifications into AutoCAD drawings can be extremely
repetitive. This revelation drove internal development of an innovative
AutoCAD-based application to facilitate automation of the design process.
Although the resulting codebase provided solid functionality, it was
relatively complex and built upon an outdated development platform.
WireCrafters wanted to strengthen the performance capabilities of their
application. However, without adequate software engineering resources
available internally, positioning the application to address current
and future needs represented a considerable challenge.
WireCrafters turned
to IDS Engineering for its expertise in custom AutoCAD application
development. IDS then re-engineered the existing application
and incorporated several key enhancements including functionality
that integrates part component information synchronization
within the design revision workflow. This reduced the time
necessary to generate and maintain engineering drawings and
improved overall consistency. The IDS solution broadened the
capabilities of the WireCrafters custom application process;
helping WireCrafters achieve enhanced manufacturing quality
through a reduction in errors and increased workflow efficiency.
Case Study Two
Maintaining a large library of viewable versions of engineering drawings
is a common concern for manufacturers. Our client, a leader in stretch
wrapping technologies, developed their own solution for viewable document
creation to meet today’s demand for increasingly complex custom
projects.
The first component of this solution was an application developed to
automatically create viewable documents when AutoCAD® drawings were
developed or changed. While this method proved a viable solution initially,
over time the volume of documents expanded. Later, as part of the transition
to a 3D design process, an Autodesk Inventor® add-in was implemented
to maintain viewables each time a 3D model was saved. While workable,
this process proved to be quite resource intensive.
The company decided to approach IDS Engineering for expert assistance
in developing a highly reliable application that would provide
customer specific viewable formatting and a streamlined workflow.
IDS developed a professionally engineered application platform
that allowed the client to completely automate the creation
of viewable documents. Leveraging automation techniques for
such manually intensive tasks reduced the amount of oversight
necessary to maintain a viewable document library and eliminated
the need for engineers to create viewables for 3D models. This
is just one example of how IDS can re-engineer existing processes
to provide consistency that makes it easy for clients to deliver
world-class results to their customers.
